A collection of photographs taken by photojournalists from Alicante on issues related to gender violence.

The exhibition runs from 10-Jan to 1-Feb 2026.

Please email Kathleen Misson Secretary if you would like to come, so that we know to meet you there.

According to the exhibition commissioner Ángel García Catalá, “You cannot photograph the moral misery of the aggressors and the desolation that death produces in the families of the victims with metaphors. You can, but you shouldn’t, because it would be purely a soft make-up and we would move away from what we want: for the society to put itself in the shoes of these people and react, to show solidarity, be indignant, be shocked, act, educate accordingly, and never get used to it”, he adds.

“When the time comes to organise an exhibition like the one you are seeing, my colleagues and I always ask ourselves whether digging up the memory of these girls from the darkness of hard disks serves any purpose. The first impulse leads us to answer no, better not to stir up so much pain. Then the concepts of oblivion, emptiness and inaction come into play, and with them, doubts. We dive into the newspaper archives, we read, we reflect on fear, death and injustice and we end up concluding that there is no other tribute that we are capable of paying from our profession. So that it is not forgotten. So that you are not forgotten”. Ángel García Catalá, Curator of the exhibition.

The exhibition is a journalistic research project carried out by a group of photojournalists from Alicante - belonging to various media outlets - on some of the cases of gender violence, specifically those registered in the family environment, which have taken place in our province in recent years.

The exhibition has the collaboration of the Asociación de Fotorreporteros de la provincia de Alicante (AFPA) (Association of photojournalists of the province of Alicante).
