This renewed commitment strengthens joint efforts to promote equality, cultural exchange and the well-being of women in the municipality, through shared projects such as International Women's Week (8 March) and the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (25 November). The agreement reaffirms the value of partnership between local institutions and civic organisations, working together for a more inclusive and supportive community.

Midwives: The Voice of Our Grandmothers - a DOCUMENTARY FILM and discussion

In Spanish with English subtitles

Midwives documentary

After several years following in the footsteps of the last traditional midwives of the 20th century in Cantabria, the personal and thought-provoking documentary “Midwives: The Voice of Our Grandmothers” was born. It is an exploration of traditional Iberian midwifery that pays tribute to this sacred profession and revives the memory of the women who practised it selflessly for decades.

This documentary offers us the opportunity to reflect on women’s professions that were never recognised, as well as on the value of home birth, which has sadly been almost entirely lost with the disappearance of this lineage of midwives.

I believe it is of vital importance to give women and mothers back the power to choose how to bring their children into the world. This is one of the motivations that led me to create this documentary, which I hope you will enjoy.
